Suki & Farah
Today, Suki joined his sister Farrah at Katie's Place Animal Shelter in Vancouver
These two beautiful cats came into our care as older feral kittens, and while they made tremendous progress, they never fully became comfortable with being touched unless they were distracted!!
And that left us with a bit of a dilemma.
They absolutely love being indoor cats and all the comforts that come with it. They happily slept on their foster mum’s bed, stayed close to her, and got along wonderfully with her dogs and other cats. They loved companionship Just not so much the touching part! Although while on the bed sleeping with her, they did enjoy some petting, but during the day, when they were not asleep or distracted, they would keep a safe distance.
And, these two are so bonded - and splitting up bonded cats is something we simply don't do, so we reached out to the wonderful people at Katie’s Place in Vancouver to see if they would be willing to take them.
Eventually, their time on the waiting list came up. But just as their move was happening, Suki escaped while his foster mum was transferring him to get to the vet for his updated vaccines.
I took Farrah to Katie’s Place as planned, not knowing how long it might take us to catch Suki. We wondered if Farrah might actually make a little more progress without her brother beside her, but after about five days, Katie’s Place contacted us to say that she was having a really difficult time without him.
A few days later, Suki was finally caught. And today, these two siblings were reunited.
They were never good candidates for a barn placement. Farrah’s beautiful long coat and fluffy tail would be a constant matting problem in a damp outdoor environment, and, well, they really love indoor life.
So now we're hoping that Katie’s Place can work a little magic with them. With their wonderful staff and so many dedicated cat whisperers, we're hopeful that Suki and Farrah may gain even more confidence and become adoptable.
And if they don't? Well, we'll figure out Plan B for these two very special cats.
